Pisac is located approximately 30 KM from Cusco. Pisac is best known for its Citadel which stands guard on the side of a mountain overlooking a gorge in the Urubamba River. Pisac was once a way point on an ancient Inca road leading into the eastern jungle. The ruins of the ancient fortress can be accessed from the village below (of the same name) by shuttle or by foot. The village below is known for its artisan market on the main square on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
